I don't know if this was mentioned elsewhere on the Comiket page, but we
reviewers received real, honest to goodness paper-'n'-staples doujinshi this
time around! Reading a comic this way is very different, and to me more
satisfying, than reading one on the net, so I'm glad we were given the
opportunity of seeing the djs this way!
In this short (nine pages) story, Hiei wants fire flowers from Youko's
garden. But... will he be willing to pay the price?
I like the cover, where a whimsical Hiei is giving his reader the finger!
Tammy draws Youko bishounen and dressed a little slutty in a loose pair of
overalls; Hiei is modestly attired in all-covering black with a scarf and
carries his signature sword. The art style varies widely from relatively
realistic to SD-cute. Straight man (er, so to speak?) Hiei, a seemingly
humorless gloomy-Gus in the original, makes lots of goofy faces in response
to Youko's behavior and you can't help but smile!
Backgrounds are minimal to non-existent--at their most complicated they
consist of a few lines implying windows or trees. Each page has a unique
layout and there are some cool ones! My only per-se problem with the art is
with the highlights in Hiei's hair, which look like they were done with
correction fluid.
Tammy puts in little handwritten asides which add a fun personal note to the
comic. You also get a glamorous self-portrait of her on the inside back
cover, *and* a fun little "Burma Shave" style poem!
This is a cute funny story with a mild hint of spice. Sadly, this is a mere
snack of a comic, tasty but gone far too quickly! I would love to see the
planned anthology dj, which promises to be a longer and more satifying read.
