I didn't know what to expect when I received "Blind" as I am not really a
YYH fan.In fact, I have only seen the first four episodes and that was
quite a while ago. After reading this doujinshi, I decided to go through
all my fansubs which are collecting dust, and watch a few more as my
interest has definitely been renewed in the series by this doujinshi.
The first part is a four-page parody called Graffiti that left me chucking.
I really enjoyed it because the artwork is cute but didn't go overboard and
the story is funny. It was quite unexpected, as I didn't know *what* to
expect when I opened the doujinshi. It is a fun beginning that I kept
rereading. The second part is a one-page parody called "Hiei Attack" which
isn't supposed to make sense...and it doesn't. I usually don't like one
page silliness that doesn't make sense, but I had to smile in spite of
myself. However, the bulk of the doujinshi is the story, "Blind". This is
what really grabbed me as it's a mixture of seriousness and humor from
beginning to end. In this story, Kurama somehow gets poisoned and is
blind. While trying to sort things out by talking with Hiei, the characters
have SD moments and humorous thoughts. As the story progresses, the scenes
change but Kurama is still trying to sort things out while humorous scenes
balance the seriousness, again without going overboard. For a while, I
couldn't figure out if it was all a dream of the characters, or a
dream-like world the characters were in, or if it was all real for them.
It is definitely interesting and I would really like to read more to get to
the bottom of it. The author mentions it is loosely based on a fanfic which
will probably nag the reader until he or she tracks the fanfic down to see
what happens and to continue the story. The author also says there might be
a sequel to this doujinshi and I am anxious to see it.
The artwork throughout the doujinshi ranges from what I call really
beautiful to silly SD images that didn't retract from the characters (so
that even someone who is not really a big fan, like myself, can recognize
them). It's well rounded in art style with something for everyone. The
notes from the artists give a warm and personal touch that says they
haven't been spoiled yet by their talent ^o^ This doujinshi is definitely
worth reading and is a keeper.
